Delivering Zero Emission Road Vehicles Through Intelligent 'Green' Hydrogen Micro Grid Generation

challenge

The proposed solution is to generate green hydrogen through the use of Manchester’s public buildings, which can then fuel Refuse Collection Vehicles (RCVs). Through solar photovoltaic arrays on the roof space of public buildings within Manchester City Centre, electrolysers can be powered to generate ‘green’ hydrogen. Our proposed Smart, IoT microgrid will utilise machine learning to balance supply and demand with weather intelligent renewable generation to determine if hydrogen should be sent for storage, used within fuel cell vehicles or (potentially) blended within the GMCA’s district heating network.
