Birmingham New Street used latest touchscreen media technology for live train information.

ICT (Integrated Communications Technology) is generally described as the integration of information and communications technology. As part of the redevelopment of New Street Station, the project was set a challenge to implement and ICT strategy by the funding partners. Q Sustain Ltd assisted and facilitated Network Rail and its stakeholders to use innovative ideas for use as part of transport management strategies to provide an integrated, more efficient and sustainable transport hub at New Street, using the Smart Stations concept.

Q Sustain developed unique solutions such as WiFi across the station concourse, future provisions for ticketless gating, and interactive screens with the latest train and city information. Q Sustain are also supporting Digital Birmingham which is the driving force to ensure that the benefits of digital and new emerging technologies are available to all people, businesses and sectors in the city. It is developing a world class digital connectivity programme that will be key to accelerating economic growth, creating new jobs and inward investment and Q Sustain are supporting the development of a prospective that includes the HS2 development and Digital railway.
results
As part of a collaborative systems integration project with Birmingham City Council, Centro, Network Rail and train operators, Q Sustain were commissioned to support the design, install, deliver and support a new interactive passenger information display system at New Street Station as well as manage the wider ICT strategy going forward. The interactive screens and implementation of free WiFi in the concourse a first for Network Rail at a main station and stated as best practice for Smart Stations by Network Rail.
